Cut-It-Out Communications Announces PR Survey Results

Hartsdale, NY, July 26, ‘07 -- Cut-It-Out Communications, Inc. (www.cutitoutcommunications.com), a premier Westchester copywriting and public relations agency, has announced the results of a survey titled, “Public Relations, Advertising and the Internet.”

The survey researched the value of public relations, different media formats, Internet publicity and advertising. It also included an open-ended question about measuring the impact of PR, a critical issue for business clients.

Willy Gissen, President of Cut-It-Out Communications, said, “The relative merits of public relations versus advertising continues to shape promotional strategy in the marketplace. Our survey attempted to quantify prevailing opinions in the debate including the impact of the Internet.”

The survey was mailed to selected PR firms and business-to-business organizations and generated some surprising results. Visibility was cited as the main value of public relations by 47 percent of the respondents, and 41 percent selected sales generation. Strategic planning and crisis management, promoted by many PR professionals, came in a distant third and fourth.

Public relations is cited by many practitioners as up to 10 times more valuable than advertising because it is evaluated by a “neutral gatekeeper,” the editor or reporter, who determines whether the item is newsworthy. Thus, readers know there is some sort of quality control before an article is published. The results of the poll found this message is getting through to the business community at large. Only six percent of the respondents felt advertising was more important than public relations.

One particularly interesting finding concerned the value of the Internet. Despite the growth of this medium, a solid majority, 59 percent, felt Internet publications, such as e-zines and blogs, were either less valuable than print publications or not valuable at all.
Respondent suggestions for measuring the impact of public relations included satisfied clients, sales leads, event attendance, follow-up contacts, sponsorships and donations.

Complete poll results are available on the Cut-It-Out Communications website at www.cutitoutcommunications.com.
