How-To Videos

Your Photo in the Search Engine Results Pages
for Your Company Website

Transcript: (//= see screen activity)

This tutorial will show you how to include your photo in the search engine results by using Google Plus and simple coding on your website. First, here's an example of the end product.//

As you can see having the photo on your site looks nice and increases the click-through rate. This, in turn, provides a signal to Google to rank your site higher. The first step is to open a Google Plus account and include the photo you want to appear in the profile. Here's an example of my Google Plus account as an example.//

Second, you want to link from Google Plus to your website home page in the contributor section of your home page. You can find the contributor section by clicking on the about section, scrolling down to links and then clicking on edit.//

You can then go to "add a custom link" to insert any URL and anchor text. Use the URL where you want your photo to appear and make sure the privacy setting for this section is set to public.//

The second step is to go to your website and link back to Google Plus. The link should include your Google Plus profile address and the rel=author snippet. Here's what it looks like for my account in Dreamweaver.//

And here's what it looks like on the website.//

Finally, you can test your coding by using the Google rich snippet tester. Just search for Google rich snippet tester and input your URL.//

And there it is. The author link is established. Just one thing, it can take up to 10 days for the photo to appear even after Google's spiders have re-indexed your site. But as long as the tester says the coding is okay, you just have to wait. //
