Dear Colleagues and Clients:

This issue includes an excerpt from Rain Making by Ford Harding about a different type of networking, more consonant with a Christian worldview than the typical image of a manipulative business person trying to sell you or make a quota. A related concept, "The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success" -- from The Go-Giver, by Bob Burg and John David Mann -- is included in the same article.

Finally, in the spirit of the above, we are sharing a company piece titled "Starting an E-Newsletter."

Best regards,

Willy Gissen

A Different Type of Networking
In his book Rain Making: The Professional's Guide to Attracting New Clients, Ford Harding offers some advice about a different type of networking based on a tried and true paradigm: the Christian worldview. Of his 14 rules, these are my favorities:

"Networking is helping people.

You must learn to recognize a lead for someone else when you hear it.CIO logo

Networking is sincere effort rather than keeping score.

Networking is a sense of urgency and obligation.

Networking is showing gratitude.

Networking is maintaining trust.

Networking requires some of your time selling other peoples' services.

Networking is helping other people learn to network." (see pp. 44-57)

Or how about "The Five Laws for Stratospheric Success" listed in The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea (by Bob Burg and John David Mann):

"The Law of Value: Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment..."

Starting an E-Newsletter

10 Easy Steps

1. Subscribe to ConstantContact.

ConstantContact, the most famous program for creating and distributing an online newsletter, only costs about $30 per month depending on the number of email addresses you wish to include. The program is recognized by major search engines so your transmissions to multiple addresses avoid categorization as spam.

2. Choose a template.

ConstantContact provides a series of templates and then lets you adjust the color, add pictures and links, and manipulate blocks of text. You should choose a professional style with at least two columns so you can provide company information in one column and vendor-neutral articles in the other.

3. Organize your contacts...
